This silhouette portrait was cut from 1/8" Birch, orange oil applied to enhance the wood grain, mounted on colored backing board and framed as shown.  Size is 8" x 10".

Mystical Lion's Mask

This item was cut from 3/4" Purpleheart wood.  Purpleheart is grown in the rainforest of Central and South America.  It is a very hard and dense wood, very fine grained, and requires patience when cutting this wood.  If you cut too slow, the wood will burn, if you cut too fast it can secrete and a creamy, oozy substance.  It is also a very heavy wood, but very beautiful in color.

Harbour Air Plaque

I made this wall art plaque for my son Darren, who is a pilot for Harbour Air Seaplanes.  The plaque is 3/4" Basswood, 11"x14" in size, however the seaplane was cut only 1/4" deep, as I routed out 1/2" of the back of the wood where the airplane was cut.  The lettering was cut from 1/4" Cherrywood and then 6 light coats of spray lacquer applied to the entire project.  The seaplane pattern was created for me, courtesy of Chris Messier.  Thank you, Chris!

Oval Bowl

I made this oval bowl yesterday.  Cut from 4 layers of 3/4" oak with Watco Danish Oil applied.  The bowl is 5"x7".  I sanded the inside of the bowl with a drum sander before gluing on the bottom piece, and sanded the outside with my 4" power belt sander after the bowl was complete.  It is actually a quick and easy project to make.  The pattern for this bowl is by Steve Good.
